Frequently Asked Questions – Teachers and Parents

Subscriptions

Does each student in a Family Plan get his or her own profile and work section?

Yes! We know that it’s important to be able to work at different paces, and to explore and dive deep into the subject materials that really spark an interest in each student, so every student gets a private profile area where they can upload homework, store cool articles, join groups and talk to other subscribers and take self tests and quizzes.

How many months are included in each plan?
  • Individual subscriptions are based on content rather than time, so by purchasing an Asteroid Academy subscription you will have access to all of the content in Series One for as long as you choose to use it. School and Class subscriptions are based on a 12 month period from the date you choose to begin your classwork, so schools and classes who need to purchase and prep before classes start will not lose class time. As a school or class, you also have the right to assign seats to different students in different sessions, so you can use the materials for two or three different sets of students over the course of your annual subscription, depending on how many seats you purchase.
I would like to donate a plan to my child's school - is that possible?

Absolutely! The best way to donate a school subscription is to contact us via email so we can help set up exactly what you’d like to donate.

Technical

Can I change the email address I use to log in to my account?

If you need to change your email address on your account, just go to your Account page and edit the email address in your account. Note that student emails cannot be changed once they are registered, as course results are tracked and a change of email will nullify results.

How do I reset my password?

As a teacher or parent, you can reset your password on your Account page. If you’ve forgotten your password and can’t login, just click the ‘Forgot Password?’ link on the Log In page and we’ll send you a reset link.

Note that students may only change their passwords by using the ‘Forgot Password?’ link on the Log In page.

How can I cancel or delete my account?

To cancel your account send us an email through your Account page and we’ll be happy to assist you.

Students

How do I add my school or class to the platform?

Once you’ve purchased a subscription for your class or school, you’ll receive an introductory email with instructions on setting up your group’s administrator and your student seats. If you have a larger group, class or a full school to setup, we’re here to help you import all of your student setup so you’ll be up and running in no time.

Can I get a copy of my students' usernames and passwords?

When your class is registered in our system, you’ll receive a list of the usernames assigned to each of your students, as well as access to their participation reports and completion records. All students’ passwords are encrypted, so we won’t be able to provide those to you, but if a student loses a password, we can reset it for him or her – just send us a password reset request from the login page!

Can I access my students' work and projects?

Teachers, school administrators and parents may access their students’ pages and work at anytime. Teachers have access to the students assigned to their group. Parents have access to their own family profiles and School admins have access to the student pages for their school.

Are there links that lead away from the Asteroid Academy website?

Yes, there are many links that lead to sites that are not part of the Asteroid Academy website. We try to provide as many resources for additional exploration as possible in the lessons. You’ll find external links on blog posts in the Sources section, as well as in the Dive Deeper pages.

Your school’s firewall may prevent students from accessing outside sites, unless you give them access.

Resources

Where can I find the teacher resources?

Teachers and administrators can find questions, tests, recommended assignments and additional resources through the For Teachers pages in the yellow menu at the top of the screen. Note that students do not have access to these pages.

How do the Curriculum Objectives links work?

There are two ways to use the Curriculum Objectives map and links..

1. Each lesson and blog post has a list of recommended curriculum objectives listed at the bottom of the page, and include links to the corresponding sections of the Curriculum Objectives Map in the For Teachers page.

2. On the Curriculum Objectives Map pages you can search for materials related to specific objectives – we’ve cross referenced all of our lessons, blog posts and interactive pages for your convenience!

Where can I find the student additional resources?

Resources for each lesson and post can be found through links at the bottom of each Asteroid Blog post,  or on the Dive Deeper pages for each module.
